The optical design engineer is responsible for designing optical components and optical subassemblies. Work as a member of a multi- disciplinary team of design and production engineers to ensure that products designed meet performance specs, schedule commitments, and yield, cost, and quality targets.

• A detailed understanding of manufacturing processes and micro system technology is required as well as the application in data communication systems
• Optical design is done using sophisticated software packages like Zemax.
• The optical design engineer must also have good mechanical lab skills to perform hands on testing of products.
• Strong communication and documentation skills will be needed
• Strong physics understanding, therefore, able to do theoretical analysis, both optical and electrical
• Must have at least 2-3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in optical design of lens laser sytems.
• B.S. M.S. or Diploma in electrical engineering or Physics required
